Council correspondence · Sept 4

Clarington’s Sept. 4 Electronic Council Communications Information Package is not a meeting. It is correspondence circulated for information. Councillors can still pull an item onto a future committee agenda. Residents can speak later as a delegation.

E-scooters — province-wide rules requested

From: Town of Parry Sound

Date: September 1, 2026

Ask: Province establish a consistent regulatory framework for electric kick-style scooters instead of the current municipal-by-municipal pilot

Reason: growing use as a low-emission option; current pilot creates inconsistent rules and extra work for smaller municipalities

Also requested: support from AMO and ROMA; copies sent to the Premier, Minister of Transportation, and all Ontario municipalities

Clarington context

Clarington has not opted into the provincial e-scooter pilot on roads it owns and maintains. E-scooters remain prohibited on municipal streets. They are permitted on certain Regional roads (generally 60 km/h or less, or in bike lanes) under Durham Region rules. Minimum age is 16; helmets required for riders under 18. Clarington Council has not voted on the Parry Sound resolution.
